Victory over TemptationsSpeaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran Gist: The Lord will give you grace to overcome the snares of the devil. Dear friend, we can have total victory in our lives when we surrender to the Lord. The Lord will give us grace to crush the plans of the devil in our lives.
“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8).
The devil is a tempter. In order to lead the people astray from God, he ensnares them by enticing them with the pleasures of the world. “For all that is in the world; the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life; is not of the Father but is of the world” (1 John 2:16).
When Jesus Christ fasted for forty days and forty nights, He later became hungry. The tempter came and said to Him to change the stones to bread if He was the Son of God. But He knew the devil was trying to tempt Him with the lust of his eyes (Matthew 4:1-4). He knew God would provide Him food. He replied, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God'." Jesus Christ Who overcame the works of the devil will also give us grace to overcome the devil’s works when we submit to God.
There was a young girl, who was raised in a Godly way. One day to her parents surprise she told them, "I have seen a young man, and I have fallen in love with him. I want to marry him." The parents enquired about that young man and found that he was an alcoholic. Her parents tried to dissuade her decision that he was not the match for her but she said, “I know he is a drunkard but I have given my heart to him and want to marry him. I will pray and change him. I take it as a challenge." She turned a deaf ear to all their advice and married him.
After marriage he would come home late at night heavily drunk and used to beat her. One day he said that he doubted her fidelity and beat her mercilessly. She cried bitterly and said, “I forsook everything for you and married you. But this is how you treat me!” Her life was in tears and in agony. Alas! Unable to live with him she committed suicide. Because she yielded to the lust of the eyes, she was ensnared by the devil and she ended her life miserably".
Dear friend, when we submit ourselves to Lord Jesus Christ, He will provide all our needs in this world. We will not lack any good thing in this world. The Lord will crown us with victory over the snares of the devil. Lord Jesus Christ will give us grace and we shall be conquerors and overcome the devil.
Prayer:
Loving Lord Jesus,
I submit myself to You. I praise and thank You for the Word. I thank You that You sustain me with Your Word and with it I can overcome the devil. Help me to seek You more in my life. Fill my life with Your grace and help me to be a conqueror over sin. I give You all glory, honour and praise.
