THE HUG OF A MOTHER!

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: Just like a mother who longs to hug her child our loving Lord eagerly waits to embrace you.

Our God is One who befriends us like a mother. Let us meditate upon God's love. "When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me." Psalm 27:10.

Several years ago, on account of official work, perturbed over many issues I left for an outstation town. I happened to pass by a church. On the exterior wall of that church it was written thus: When my father and my mother forsake me, then Jesus Christ will take care of me. On reading these words a fountain of inexpressible joy gushed out of my heart. Great happiness filled and kept bubbling in my soul. It is truly heart warming to know that even when one's own father and mother forsake, there is someone who would always take care of you. When a person is faring well, the world would laugh along with him, but when unfortunately adversity taps his door, the world will forget him. This is the nature of the people who live in this world.

There is an English adage that I often utter. "When you smile the whole world will smile with you. But when you weep, you will weep all alone." Assuredly this statement is cent percent true. On the contrary the Bible says, "When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me." Let not your heart be troubled.

Perhaps today you are in such a predicament. Is loneliness tormenting you? Have you been belittled by your peers? Do you feel that you are like a broken vessel? Always remember that the Lord says even when others forsake you I will not forsake you. This is precisely the love of a mother.

Everything concerning the Lord is a wonder. He has a wonderful name. The Lord appeared to Abraham and said to him, "I am Almighty God" (Genesis 17:1). The Hebrew word for this particular phrase is "Elshadai" which means I am your father and your mother. On the one hand, like a father the Lord is a mighty person. "Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?" Jeremiah 32:27. God is a mighty person, with incomparable strength, divinely powerful and is with supernatural power. While on the other hand, He has a gentle breast like that of a mother who has a suckling child. This is what is termed by the word "Elshadai." He says, “I am the Father and One who loves like a mother breast feeding her child”.
Recently a terrible earthquake shook the region of Iran killing approximately fifty thousand people. When the rescuers were trying to save the survivors from the rubble, a particular scene brought down tears from the eyes of all those who witnessed it. A six-month-old baby girl suckled in her dead mother's arms was rescued alive 72 hours after the earthquake from the rubble of a collapsed building. The mother's protective embrace had shielded the child from falling debris and saved her life. She was found wrapped in her mother's arms in good health. "Let me die but let my child live" is the attitude of a mother. Even at the last moment, until there was breath in her the only thought that had dominated her mind could be "My child should live even if I die." Thus she breast fed the child and ultimately gave up her life. The love of our Lord Jesus Christ is much more than that.
My dear Friend, this is the only fact whereby we can call ourselves as blessed people. Just like a mother who longs to hug her child our loving Lord eagerly waits to embrace you. For everyone to understand this inexpressible love and to reveal His love for mankind, He came in the form of a man. "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory." 1 Timothy 3:16

The Bible says God is invisible and One whom no man has seen or can see in Hebrews 11:27, and 1 Timothy 6:16. None could see Him and therefore none could comprehend His virtues. Therefore, in order to enable man to comprehend the virtues of His inexpressible love, He took the form of a man and descended to the earth in the form of flesh so that everyone could see Him.

Prayer:

Almighty God,

I praise and thank You for letting me know that even when my father and my mother forsake me You are there to take care of me. Your love for me is more than that of my father and my mother because it is You who created me. I fall prostrate at Your feet and thank you for the wonder of my being, for the gift of mind, body and soul. I humbly ask You to bless me this day and embrace me in Your gentle breast.

In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen
