I WILL GIVE YOU RESTSpeaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran Gist: The Lord Himself had experienced great agony and hence He understands our pain. He knows that you crave for love. When you come to Him, surely He will give you rest. Many years ago, the Governor of Calcutta was ruling over India, during the period of British dominion. One fine day as he was strolling on the seashore, He happened to see a young woman, who was trying to commit suicide by jumping into the sea. Immediately he sent his men to rescue her. When she was brought to him, she wept inconsolably. She told him that her husband had died and according to the custom of her place, they were trying to burn her along with her husband in the funeral fire. She wanted to escape the horrible death and hence wanted to end her life before they could snatch her and put into the fire.
The Governor’s heart was moved. Being an unmarried man, he proposed to her. She had no words to express her feelings. The same widow, who tried to commit suicide, became the honorable wife of a Governor General of India. She lived with him happily and with her four beautiful children. Today the Lord wants to bless you with this kind of joy. He wants to build your family life, and everything concerning you with happiness. Perhaps, the situation around may seem hard and the loving ones might have forsaken you. But you have put your trust upon the living God who gave His precious life for you in the cross of Calvary. God will surely honour your faith.
Our Lord Jesus Christ went through a torturous death. At the time of His crucifixation, there was no one by His side who could comfort Him. His loving disciples upon whom He showered His love denied Him. He greatly yearned for someone who would comfort Him. But, there was no one to console Him and He was totally broken. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? (Matthew 27:46). The pain that He went through was unbearable. The Lord Himself had experienced great agony and hence He understands our pain. He knows that you crave for love. When you come to Him, surely He will give you rest. “ Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) My dear friend, commit yourself into the loving embrace of God. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Do not let your heart be troubled. Prayer Almighty God, You alone are my help in times of trouble. Help me to always acknowledge that my help could come from You who made the heaven and earth. Forgive me the days when I have relied upon my own strength and resources. You are the Lord whose mercies endures forever. I offer all praises to You. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen |
