PERSONAL PRAYER Speaker: Sis. Stella Dhinakaran Gist: The life of our Lord Jesus Christ is a very explicit example explaining the need for personal prayer. King David says, "Evening, morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice." The life of our Lord Jesus Christ is a very explicit example explaining the need for personal prayer.
The Bible says in I Peter 2:21 that Christ has left us an example, that we should follow His steps. Look at the prayer life of the Son of God, His life is an example for each one of us. The verses as found in Matthew 14:23, Mark 1:35, Luke 6:12, 22:44; Hebrews 5:7 and also many other verses are evidences to the prayer life of Jesus Christ. It was His prayer life that enabled Him to defeat Satan and emerge as a victor over the forces of darkness. You may ponder, "He was God and therefore it was possible for Him to lead such a prayerful life. I am just a human and how could I be steadfast in prayer?"
Look at the life of David. He says, " Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice." (Psalm 55:17) "God, You are my God; early will I seek You" (Psalm 63:1). David sought the Lord in the morning, at noon and at night. If a king prayed thus for God's blessings; much more is our need to seek Him at all times. The Lord should give us the grace to seek Him always.
I often take pride in calling my husband a very "prayerful man". Some times he would kneel for hours together in prayer. All night he would pray. I do not know the reason, however I even now wonder whether the weakness in his legs is probably because of having knelt down for such long hours. When I wake up at 5 a.m., many times I have seen him still kneeling down and offering prayers. I used to enquire, "Haven't you slept the previous night?" He would in return ask, "Is it daybreak now?" He delighted in the presence of the Lord and therefore the Lord has entrusted this massive mission of the "Jesus Calls Ministry" into his hands. He would likewise do unto you and bless you with greater responsibilities. Therefore set aside a particular time for personal prayer and praise the Lord always.
Prayer
Loving Lord,
I praise and thank You for the prayerful life which you led while You lived on this earth. Give me the grace to set aside a particular time for personal prayers and help me to follow Your foot steps. Enable me to seek Your face at all times like king David and be immensely blessed in all walks of my life.
All praise, glory and honor be to Your name alone.
Amen |
