NEW MERCIES

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: Do not be troubled, for the Lord says, 'My mercies are new every morning for you." Therefore, cheer up to boldly face the day.

Remember how short my time is. Psalm 89:47

All of us keep lamenting thus, "Oh how uncertain is my life on this earth". For that matter the earth we live in is also of an uncertain nature. We do not know what would happen the next moment. What is the Lord's answer to this? The answer is found in Lamentations 3:22-23, "Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. THEY ARE NEW EVERY MORNING" Therefore, though our life and the earth upon which we live in are uncertain yet the mercies of our Lord Jesus Christ are like an ocean, which is new every morning. We derive great consolation through this statement.

Secondly, His mercies are never ending from the beginning of the day. The Bible says in Matthew 6:34, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Everyday morning whether you like it or not, the worries for that day wait eagerly for you to open the door. Do not be troubled, for the Lord says, 'My mercies are new every morning for you." Therefore, cheer up to boldly face the day.

Quite often I remember this incident in the life of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of India. It was his usual habit to be up from bed early in the morning, practice yoga and be ready by 6 a.m. He would then walk around his rose garden accompanied by Ramu, the gardener. Ramu would pluck the most beautiful rose among all the flowers that had bloomed that day and pin it to his shirt.

Pandit Nehru would proudly walk with that rose tucked to his shirt. When Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru passed away, Ramu placed a fresh rose on his dead body and wept bitterly saying, "I have brought the rose which you love very much." Nehru is not with us but our Lord Jesus Christ is alive. While we say our life is uncertain our Lord Jesus Christ says, "I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore."

At daybreak, when we offer prayers seeking the Lord's help placing all our sorrows, burdens and worries at this feet, He takes all our supplications and wears them like a flower. He remembers and sends His unending mercies to us for facing that day.

My dearly beloved! You may continue to lament about the uncertainty of your life and this earth but our loving Lord says, "I am the same yesterday, today and forever. I will continue to send my unending new mercies everyday to you whenever you seek Me early in the morning. I will embrace you and carry you. Do not worry."

Whenever I seek Your face, appear by my side asking, "What shall I do for you?" Crown me with Your never ending new mercies everyday.

All praises to You.

Amen.
