The Divine Authority Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran Gist: Lord Jesus has the authority to take a life (soul) to Heaven or Hell, and also to draw it back. He has 'authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You (God) have given Him. "No one has power over the spirit to retain the spirit, And no one has power in the day of death. There is no release from that war, and wickedness will not deliver those who are given to it." (Ecclesiastes 8:8)
"What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the power of the grave?" (Psalm 89: 48)
At the thought of death, almost all shiver and tremble. No human power can preclude or pre-empt it. It comes at the right time and leaves, finishing its job; it is not afraid of any worldly authority. If a man is to die, he has to die (Job 14:5). When death strikes, we cannot say, 'I do not want to come with you'. Nevertheless, the resurrected Lord asserts: "I have the power to give life or take it." He has the authority to throw a person into Hell and has the power to bring him back from Hell.
Yes! "Hell and Destruction are before the Lord" (Proverbs 15:11)
Once we happened to listen to a soul-stirring witness about the 'Jesus Calls' Prayer Tower Ministry. A lady, who had never heard about the 'Jesus Calls' Ministry, became critically ill and was comatose, in a hospital, for several days. All her kith and kin were in deep sorrow. The doctors were helpless. In this pathetic situation, one day, the diseased sister was articulating something in her unconscious condition itself. She drew the attention of her dear husband and mumbled a telephone number, asking him to contact that number. Then he phoned up that number and from the other end, a Prayer Warrior's voice sounded, 'Sir, what prayer- help do you want?' The puzzled husband merely described his wife's condition and also how she gave that number in a mystical manner. Immediately the Prayer Warrior, with great compassion, prayed earnestly for his wife's restoration to normalcy and then said, consolingly, "God will definitely raise your wife up; do not be worried." The phone interlude was over.
This phone episode seemed to the gentleman to be a weird and eerie experience. Another sweeter shock was in store for him. When he reached the hospital, his beloved wife was sitting up on her bed, conversing with the doctors. His heart leaped up in great joy. Later, that lady narrated her unearthly experience:- "I reached Heaven. I met my long-lost daughter there. She was talking to me lovingly. Just then, an angel appeared there. He gave me that particular phone number; I had notified to you and said, 'Contact this number'. I conveyed to you that number, in that zero consciousness. In a little while, Lord Jesus appeared before me, breathing the words, "You return" I woke up suddenly without my own volition." The whole family was exhilarated.
We, too, were lost in wonder, listening to that supernatural mystic experience. Our gracious Lord Jesus has the dynamic authority to take a life (soul) to Heaven or Hell, and also to draw it back. He has 'authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You (God) have given Him (John 17:2).
My dear friend, the resurrected Jesus has, with Him, all authority. He stood staunchly with Apostle Paul. Because Paul used His authority, mighty miracles occurred wherever he went. The demons trembled. People acknowledged Jesus. Let us also focus our physical and mental eyes on the wonderful wonder-working Lord and submit our supplication: "Resurrected Lord Jesus, let me hold on to Your assurance, 'All authority is in My hands' and plead with You: 'Exhibit and reveal Your authority of grace in my life." Lord Jesus, who has all authority in heaven and on earth, is gloriously, still alive. He has the sole sovereign power. He will fill us with His astonishing power; He will give us also His unique power, empowering us to drive away devils, to heal all diseases, to control nature, to thwart opposing forces and to offer Christ's 'life' to other people. He will make use of us in a glorious way. He will send us into rapturous joy.
Prayer:
Loving Heavenly Father,
I praise and worship You with all my heart. When the enemy comes against me like a roaring lion help me not to be frightened instead look at You from where my help comes. Let not my opponents overcome me. Protect me with Your divine authority from all dangers in this world. Command Your angels to take charge over me and be with me always. Instruct Your angels to carry me in their arms always.
