The Deliverer Of Sins

Speaker: Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran

Gist: Sin is so horrible. Jesus alone can overcome it. Christ, the Saviour descended into this earth only to bring redemption from our sins. The blood, which He shed on the cross, cleanses us from all sins.

Jesus came down as the Saviour of mankind and the Redeemer of His people from their sins. He is the Lord whom 'no man has seen or can see' (1 Timothy 6:16) - the great God who professed, "Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool" (Isaiah 66:1). He came down to this earth to change the sinful nature of man?

Friend, sin is so horrible. Jesus alone would overcome it. In our very birth sin has been ingrained to us (Psalm 51:5). It grows and evolves in the 'members' of our body (Romans 7:23). Embedded in the members of our body, sin creates havoc. 'Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires of pleasure that war in our members? (James 4:1; Hebrews 12:4), it keeps on inducing us to do only evil, barring us from doing good, without allowing us to do anything independently, it binds us so effectively that we are 'caught in the cords of sin' (Proverbs 5:22). Ultimately the consummation of evil entraps us and we die because of our iniquities and sins.

Mary was betrothed to Joseph. As she was found with a child of the Holy Spirit, Joseph was thinking of putting her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:20,21)

Nearly thirty-three years ago, there was a Prime Minister in a particular country. One morning, when he was listening to the grievances of some people who had sought him and in a jiffy, shot him; he convulsed and collapsed, dead on the spot. The police arrested the assassin and confined him in prison. Days rolled by and he was given the death sentence. Before he was executed - as it is always the custom to offer spiritual counseling to such people - he was asked - whom do you want for counseling you before your execution?" You know what he said? He said, "Sir, please send me a Christian Priest. My stains of sin should go. Only Christ can wipe away those stains. Did He not, utter the comforting words even while hanging on the Cross, to the repentant criminal, 'Today you will be with Me in Paradise'? I want to reach the presence of Jesus Christ. In conformity with his last desire, they sent a pastor of a particular Church. He explained to the criminal the eternal love of Jesus Christ and helped him to confess and repent for his sins. According to his wish, he administered Communion also to him. When the day for execution came, he appeared joyful with a radiant face. His final words were, "My sin-spots have vanished and I am going to Heaven."

My dear friend, Christ, the Saviour descended into this earth only for this purpose. In Him is the redemption of our sins (Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14). The blood, which He shed on the cross, cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:7). How genuinely true is the word that He will cleanse the sins of His people and save them!

Prayer:

Most gracious Heavenly Father,

I believe it is the blood of Jesus that was shed on the Calvary that has the power to cleanse me from all my sins. Lord, I plead You to cleanse me one more time and make me holy and pure. Help me to refrain myself from the sinful ways of the world and lead a life that will be always pleasing at Your sight. In Jesus' mighty name I pray.

Amen.
