The Lord is the Spirit

Speaker: Dr. Paul Dhinakaran

Gist: The Lord has given us a Divine Helper to comfort us and lead us to triumph. The Holy Spirit is the divine Helper who will help triumph in everything; will lift you up and raise you high.

When the Holy Spirit comes upon a person He fills the person with divine knowledge and wisdom. He will turn all the challenges and defeat into a great victory.

Before I came to Christ, when I was doing my degree in B.Sc., I failed in all the subjects. But when Christ came into my heart, I studied again all the same subjects. I used to cry out to God, "Lord, You have chosen me and have filled me with Your Holy Spirit. When I open my book everything is new to me. Nothing sticks to my memory. Do help me, Lord!" The Holy Spirit would then descend on me. I would feel His divine presence by my side while I studied. He taught me all my lessons. I used to be surprised at it and would offer Him my grateful thanks saying, "Lord, You are by my side. You teach me and make my studies stick to my memory." The Holy Spirit pleaded for me and ensured success in all my examinations. Today, He has enabled me to secure several degrees and raised me in the academic world. What a great joy and blessing it is to have the Holy Spirit with us!

Even today, many youngsters may feel scared at the time of examinations and despair that they cannot understand anything they study. Just remember the path I went through. When the Holy Spirit came upon me and I had come to the end of my resources, feeling so wretched and miserable that nothing could be done on my own, but He pleaded for me. He gave me so freely His wisdom and memory. He made me succeed in my studies and all that I did. He will do the same for you as well.

The Scripture says, "If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you" (Romans 8:11).

Dear friend, do you bewail saying, "My body is full of disease. I have tried so many medicines, but everything is in vain. My prayers have not yet reached God. I am not able to pray anymore." That is the time, when the Holy Spirit wrestles on your behalf. He descends on you with all His power. He revives your mortal body and releases you from all your troubles. Do you often think so lightly of the Holy Spirit - that He is like the dove, someone all too common? Then you are wrong, He is Almighty! He is faithful! He is Lord!"

"Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17). When the Holy Spirit fills you, when you feel dismayed at times of trouble, He begins to plead for you. He releases you from all your troubles and brings the right answer to all your problems.

Years ago, when my sister Angel died, we all shed bitter tears. I cried and cried and lamented, "Why should this cruel tragedy strike our family, when we are going all over the world and proclaiming 'Jesus loves you all'. If Jesus loves us, why did he permit this tragedy happen to us? Hereafter, how can I stand before a great multitude of people and proclaim 'Jesus loves you all'?" In all these ways, my heart was troubled day and night. I passed through a terrible trial of faith. One day, when we knelt down for our daily family prayers, the Holy Spirit descended on us mightily and we were filled with His power. He spoke to us with words of comfort. We then committed ourselves completely to His will. I cried, "Lord, I trust you. I will not betray you. I have no mind to leave you and go to hell." The Lord granted me His grace to cling closer to Him.

"All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

Dear friend, very often we are not able to understand what happens to us. We wonder, "Why does this problem come on my way? Why is this affliction?" But when the Holy Spirit fills us, He pleads for us with the Lord. He plants the mind of Christ in our hearts. We feel confident that Christ is with us. There arises a steadfast faith in our hearts, which makes us put our trust in God. Remember Christ's assurance, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). All of us have to pass through many problems and perils. In spite of all that the Lord has given us a Divine Helper to comfort us and lead us to triumph. Be not dismayed. The Holy Spirit is the divine Helper who will give you wisdom. He will change all your failures into triumphs. He will lift you up and raise you high.

Prayer

Gracious Heavenly Father,

I thank from the bottom of my heart for giving me Your Holy Spirit as a divine Comforter. Open my ears that I may heed to my helpers voice and act accordingly. Grant me Your grace to be faithful and obedient to the Holy Spirit. Turn all my failures and defeats into triumph. Teach me to abide in You and to bear good fruits in my life. I give You all the glory. In Jesus' precious name, I pray.

Amen.
